motor skills, and coordination. It is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease
after Alzheimer's, affecting over 10 million people worldwide.

There are some key challenges though in diagnosing Parkinson's disease: The symptoms are often subtle and difficult to detect in the early stages. There is no single, objective, diagnostic test for Parkinson's disease. The diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is often delayed by years, and someone may have it for a decade or more before it’s finally diagnosed. The Problem
The
problem
with
Parkinson’s
is
that
the
early
symptoms
are
often
subtle,
vague
and
ill-
defined.
And
even
though
most
people
think
that
hand
tremor
is
one
usual
indicator,
it’s
not
necessarily
so
-
there
is
more
than
one
type
of
tremor,
and
the
most
common
is
completely
unrelated to Parkinson’s Disease!
Until
now
there
has
been
no
definitive
diagnostic
test
for
the
disease
and
diagnosis
has
relied
on
close
observation
of
your
movement
features,
in
conjunc
-
tion with a range of other potential indicators.
Unfortunately
first-line
medical
practitioners
such
as
GP’s
don’t
have
the
specialized
training
and
have
had
a
quite
high
misdiagnosis
rate
of
Parkinson’s
-
they
don’t
pick
it
up
in
more
than
25%
of
cases
and
so
it
can continue undiagnosed for many years.
This
isn’t
a
criticism
of
GP’s
at
all
-
early
diagnosis
relies
on
having
extensive
specialized
experience
and
is
often
quite
difficult.
Neurologists
have
that
exper
-
tise,
but
you
need
to
be
referred
to
them
first.
